Woodmere is a hamlet in Hempstead on the South Shore of Long Island. The hamlet has an easy access to Manhattan, Kennedy Airport, and Atlantic Beach. Woodmere is in the group of Five Towns which includes the other villages of Cedarhurst, Lawrence, Inwood, and the Hewletts. Woodmere received its name to honor the landholder Samuel Wood first known as Woodsburgh.
Woodmere is served by Lawrence Public Schools and Hewlett-Woodmere School District. Woodmere is also home to the Lawrence Woodmere Academy which is a preparatory school for pre-kindergarten though 12th grades and the Hebrew Academy of Long Beach High School which is an all boy’s Jewish school. The hamlet offers a small quiet atmosphere with a wide array of businesses, restaurants, and services.
The most popular events in Woodmere include the Hewlett-Woodmere Harvest & Music Festival held in October. The event offers a wide array of craft vendors, specialty foods, artists, games, farmers market, and of course music.
